I am working on a new series of tests that I would like to run that I think would be very useful to our members. I want to test a wide variety of the UV protectant materials that colored pencil artists sometimes use over their colored pencil artwork to enhance the lightfastness. I am putting together a list of UV Plexiglas, UV Glass, UV fixatives, and varnishes, and Lightfast blender pencils. I’m trying to get a big list with many products and manufacturers so it doesn’t appear that I am promoting certain materials.

My proposed test methodology is to do the following:

• Choose three pencils that I will test with all of the suggested UV protectant materials and these three pencils will remain constant - one pencil that has been previously tested as lightfast, one pencil that is borderline, and one pencil that has failed the lightfastness testing.
• Each of the various UV protectant materials will be tested with the three chosen pencils. That way we can see what kind of an effect these protectant materials have on pencils in the range of lightfast testing ratings.

Please help me compile a complete list of all of the various products that you have either used or have seen for sale. The bigger the list the better the data will be.

I would also like feedback on the pencils you would like to see tested. The tests take time so I would like to first test whatever the majority of you want. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR SAY!! This list will be ongoing so whenever you become curious about a product just drop me an email. Get as many people as possible to fill out the following questionnaire about pencil lightfastness! A list of all of the pencils that have already been or are currently in the process of being tested is listed in the column to the right. Let me know what should be next on my list.
